- 1)Completes competency assessments in conjunction with nursing educator and coordinator for all nursing and technical staff related to scope reprocessing.
- 2)Observes employee activities throughout the shift to ensure that established procedures are being followed for quality control, appropriate PPE, etc.
- 3)Assists in ensuring that equipment is properly functioning by communicating equipment malfunctions to manager and/or Engineering/Biomed and filling out appropriate work orders.
- 4)Acts as liaison between Endoscopy and other departments to interpret problems that occur and communicate back to them in a courteous and professional manner.
- 5)Assists in maintaining Decontam Room inventory by periodically ordering and receiving supplies and maintaining the appropriate paperwork.
- 6)Assists with adjustment in daily work assignments to compensate for fluctuation in work flow.
- Decontamination of Instruments and Equipment
- 7)Handles infectious waste according to established hospital procedure.
- 1)Wears proper protective attire when performing decontamination.
- 2)Follows established procedures to ensure decontamination is complete and correct. Follows established guidelines and procedures for safety to avoid unnecessary exposure to paracetic acid and OPA. Knowledgeable in process for utilizing spill kits and code orange process.
- 3)Sets up decontamination equipment for operation and ensures proper function and continuous work flow throughout the shift.
- 4)Maintains a neat and clean work area at all times.
- 5)Reports improper equipment operation to clinical engineers, red tags the equipment, and documents as appropriate.
- 6)Cleans and disinfects equipment and work area throughout the day and at completion of shift, anticipating needs of next shift.
- Performance of Auto Reprocessing and Liquid Disinfection (OPA)
- 1)Examines and ensure that all equipment is loaded with appropriate products and configuration in reprocessor.
- 2)Test all instrumentation for correct function following established procedures each time the instrumentation is processed or for daily QC. This includes following established procedures for checking for leaks, angulation, and obvious damage with scopes.
- 3)Observe and assess the operation of all equipment by interpreting the recorders and readouts on the machines,i.e.,QC for scope buddy.
- 4)Utilize Censitrac System to support documentation of cleaning times and traceability to patient, procedure and staff handling.
- 5)Follow all manufacture information for use sheets and approved processes for appropriate sterilization or high level disinfection.
- Develop and Analyze RF scanning reports to identify and verify any process gaps to meet and verify regulatory requirements.
- 1)Utilizing the Censitrac Instrument Tracking system, scan all items into each reprocessor
- 2)Observes and assesses the operation of each reprocessor for every cycle by interpreting the recorded data strip provided. Scan the strip into Censitrac Instrument Tracking system and document results.
- 3)Initiate a recall should any load fail to meet specified parameter. Notify Manager and Clinical Engineering immediately.

- 5)Labels each scope processed with correct label as per standard work.
- Performance of Inventory/Storage/Distribution Functions
- 3)Assists with cleaning of storage areas and work stations to maintain a contaminant-free environment.
- 4)Reviews daily schedule and plans for appropriate distribution based on daily schedule.
- 5)Monitors process improvement indicators and reports to staff at staff meetings
- 1)Places supply items in appropriate area for distribution, ensuring the items are accurately sorted by department. Collaborate with 2-bin system staff and identify staff challenges to work out identified obstacles in the process. Communicate processes to staff on a regular basis.
- 2)Receives supplies from warehouse and outside vendors, ensuring that supplies entering Endoscopy are devoid of external contaminants and unboxed in appropriate area.
- Preparation of Equipment for Auto-clave and sterilization and transports as needed.
- 1)Assure that all items are completely dry prior to assembly.
- 2)Wrap or containerize items for sterilization. Use Tyvek pouches for single instruments. Transport to SPD in appropriate container.
- 3)Collects specimens from specimen area and transports to pathology or designated area and documents appropriately.
- Validation of Equipment:
- 1)Runs appropriate tests for reprocessors, scope buddy, automatic leak tester and other technology as appropriate.
- 2)Validates and documents quality control data for strips to check MEC for OPA and reporcessor and test strips themselves.
- 3)Follows preventive maintenance schedule weekly for Environmate. Notify facilities when alteration in function.
- 8)Gives and receives constructive feedback to and from co-workers to maintain a controlled work area for infection control purposes.
- 1)Understands verbal instruction. Able to work for long hours with mask and communicate effectively.
- 2)Communicates properly with co-workers and customers.
- 3)Comprehends written and verbal instructions.
- 4)Documents appropriately ie: Censitrac Instruments tracking system, Shift report.
- 5)Collaborates with co-workers to prioritize work load.
- 6)Cooperates with co-workers to produce productive outputs.
- 7)Works in all areas as needed to accomplish daily work loads and help where needed, i.e., escort outpatients.
Education/Experience Required:
- High school diploma. 3 yrs. GI Lab or SPD experience 1 year of lead or supervisory experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Ability to communicate and follow directions. Computer skills. Experienced in operating sterilization and reprocessing equipment
- Certified Central Service Tech. OR Advanced GI Tech Certified FlexibleEndoscope Reprocessor
Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Exposure to blood/body fluids Hepatitis vaccine at hire Ability to respond quickly to emergent situations. Strength/dexterity to handle surgical equipment/instruments. Ability to access all areas of the department. TB test annually.
