IT has a track record of success with interns across their various teams, all who have the ability to directly contribute to the success of the department. Interns apply knowledge gained in the classroom to develop relevant professional experience while developing meaningful relationships. We look for highly motivated individuals who are proactive, eager to learn and ready to contribute.

Our IT Operations team is responsible for the full lifecycle of our infrastructure systems, core software platforms and on-premises third-party business applications. The Intern will be a part of the technical teams which include Network/Telecom, Security, Application Administration, Database Administration and Server as they plan, install, support, troubleshoot and monitor our environments and technologies. These environments and technologies include, but are not limited to Window Server, Vmware, Cisco network, SQL Server database and PeopleSoft, Microsoft Dynamics and many other multiple third-party business applications.


Internship Location, Availability and Hours:
Located in our downtown Milwaukee office, the intern must be able to work part-time during the school semesters, 15-20 hours per week, and full time during the summer, 37.5-40 hours per week. We are seeking a local student who can start in May 2025.

As an IT Operations & Infrastructure Intern, you will:

  • Own and manage applications, upgrades and support

  • Manage different projects to help support the IT Operations team and internal clients

  • Responsible for assisting with day-to-day operations and support of the Baird IT infrastructure and operations teams

  • Work under the direction of an experienced team member, gaining increasing responsibilities as you demonstrate your abilities

  • Assist in special projects and tasks as needed

  • Learn about Baird’s business units to be able to provide the best support and outcomes to these teams

  • Experience Baird’s culture by shadowing current team members. Receive mentorship from an experienced team member and partner with a manager on professional development

  • Exceptional organizational/time management skills and attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities at one time and meet all deadlines

  • A highly motivated, self-starter and strategic thinker who takes initiative to learn and contribute to the team

What we look for:

  • Pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology Management, Information Systems, MIS, Computer Science or related degree. Targeting May 2026 or later graduation date

  • General knowledge and/or interest in the following infrastructure systems: Microsoft Windows OS and Server, OS deployment, Virtualization, Active Directory/Group Policy, IT Security, LAN/WAN

  • Experience troubleshooting PC hardware and software problems

  • Familiarity with scripting or programming languages (PowerShell, VB script, Java script)

  • Possesses a natural curiosity in understanding the application of technology to solve business problems
