Provides a primary support role for the evaluation, installation, repair, modification and inspection of the complex specialty equipment of at least one of the following groups: anesthesia gas delivery systems, critical care ventilators, hemodialysis machines and hemodialysis water treatment systems, networked medical equipment systems, or laboratory instruments and temperature monitoring systems related to laboratory or vaccine and medication storage. Provides same level of support for other patient care equipment used in most areas of the hospital. Provides technical assistance in the clinical setting, educates users on proper use of equipment, resolves equipment hazard alerts and recalls, completes special projects relating to major installations of equipment, oversees vendor services, and assists with budget preparations. Provides support to other Clinical Engineering staff as needed to assure that effective back-up support for the specialty equipment is maintained at all times.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification
Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) certification through the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) within 12 months of starting this position.
Requires a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, personal auto liability insurance coverage and the ability to be insured by the CHHS auto insurance carrier.

Associate’s degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology.
Experience (Education can be substituted for experience)
Requires minimum of 5 years as a technician in a health care environment providing primary support for the service of at least one group of complex specialty systems.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Special knowledge of repair and inspection procedures specific to the majority of equipment used at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin among at least one group of complex specialty systems (anesthesia gas delivery, critical care ventilators, hemodialysis machines and hemodialysis water treatment systems, or networked medical systems).
Superior computer application skills including Microsoft Office suite.
Good analytical skills necessary to estimate repair budgets for complex specialty equipment.
Good interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact with a variety of health care professionals.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Provides services in a setting where there is potential for exposure to blood and other high risk body fluids, chemotherapy agents, communicable disease and hazardous materials, chemicals, and waste.
Requires manual dexterity and ability to perform technical procedures. Requires familiarity with various test equipment and technical manuals.
Travel between CHW hospital sites for Clinical Engineering services is required as needed. Use of personal vehicle as part of assigned technical duties may be required.
