Position Summary:

Independently or with general supervision, performs specialized tests and assists with the development of new clinical applications in the clinical laboratory. Recognizes the clinical significance of each test performed and reports results within established time frames.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology.
  • Requires national certification - Medical Technologist, American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
  • As related to clinical laboratory practices, understanding of general and specific laboratory procedures, and scientific approach and methodologies.
  • Ability to record, compile, create, and maintain accurate records and communicate summaries of laboratory results. Field questions and concerns from physicians, nurses, and external laboratory staff. Instruct and train new members of the laboratory staff, rotating residents, students, and physicians as needed.
  • Ability to operate, calibrate, perform, and supervise routine maintenance on instrumentation. Perform instrument maintenance at the prescribed time and logs appropriately. Assist in minor trouble-shooting tasks.
  • Identify source and nature of test problems and makes appropriate recommendation as to course of action.
  • Strong critical thinking, solving testing problems of an advanced or novel nature, and attentiveness to detail required.
