Under the supervision of the NICU Patient Care Supervisor, the Certified Breastfeeding Peer Counselor will provide basic lactation information and services to mothers whose infants are cared for in the NICU at Children's Wisconsin (CW), and women in the high-risk antepartum setting. The individual who holds this position exemplifies the CW's mission, vision and values, and acts in accordance with CW's policies and procedures. Certification as a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor through a recognized, professional certification program within one year of hire. High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED). Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Exhibits guiding behaviors that reflect Children's values and support our mission and vision. Ability to communicate effectively with women and families from a variety of ethnic, cultural and economic backgrounds. Ability to work collaboratively with CW physicians, nurses, social workers, fellow breastfeeding peer counselors and other healthcare providers. Ability to work efficiently and complete assignments independently and with excellent attention to detail. Ability to work collaboratively with the CW lactation consultants to meet the lactation coverage needs of the NICU. Mothers of infant(s) who were able to successfully provide maternal milk to their infants and whose infants were cared for in a NICU preferred.
