Job Summary The role of the primary care pediatric Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is to provide care to children from birth through young adult with an in-depth knowledge and experience in pediatric primary health care including well child care and prevention/management of common pediatric acute illnesses and chronic conditions. This care is provided to support optimal health of children within the context of their family, community, and environmental setting. The Children's Medical Group (CMG) APP Fellowship is an intensive 6-month educational training opportunity for a licensed graduated practitioner without prior independent APP clinical experience. The fellowship is an innovative curriculum composed of in-person didactics, simulation, proctored procedures and mentored clinical rotations and is designed to the specific competencies and expectations relevant to the CMG APP provider role described above. As part of the CMG APP fellowship, the APP will obtain a certificate in lactation or mental health. Essential Functions - Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams for well and acute visits, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status. - Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information. - Develop pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans. - Monitor effectiveness of plan of care.. - Educate patients on disease and treatment plans. Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors. - Perform procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed. - Document within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and complete other necessary documents within a timely manner. - Collaborate and/or consult with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate as part of the care team. - Participates in organizational initiatives including the development, maintenance and support of the strategic direction of Children’s Wisconsin Primary Care. Actively participates in the clinical quality and safety efforts of the department or the organization. - Responsible for understanding and adhering to the Children’s Organizational Code of Ethics and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to Children's business. Legacy Essential Functions - Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards. - Assumes responsibility for own education as an engaged participant within the CMG APP Fellowship. Participates in all required fellowship course, educational activities and feedback sessions. The fellow should be self-aware and take responsibility for clinical and professional growth and development. - Must be flexible with schedule based on fellowship course schedule. Education: - Master's Degree or higher in Nursing required or - Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies required Experience: - This position is geared towards a new graduate or clinician with less than 1 year of APP experience. preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Exhibits guiding behaviors that reflect Children’s values and support our mission and vision. Licenses and Certifications: - BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council required - + one of the following: - N/A - License Advance Practice Nurse Prescriber (33) - State of Wisconsin - License PA-Physician's Assistant (23) - State of Wisconsin Patient Care Responsibility - Provides care appropriate to patient population and as described in applicable policies and procedures.
