Job Summary Reports to the Environmental Services Supervisor and maintains the appearance of the hospital grounds by removing waste, cleaning the parking structure, trimming hedges and other related tasks. Responsible for snow removal of sidewalks, entrances and parking areas. Also, responsible for lifting and moving furniture and other Environmental Services tasks as needed. Essential Functions - Responsible for outdoor waste removal and picking up litter around the campus grounds. - Cleans the parking structure entrances, stairwells, and elevators. - Performs routine power washing of needed ground surfaces. - Reports maintenance problems to supervisor (burned out lights, wall damage, leaking faucets, housekeeping equipment, etc.). - Rakes, collects and disposes of leaves, debris, glass and refuse from the hospital grounds and stairways. - Removes snow from the sidewalks, parking lots, and entrances using shovels, snowthrowers and spreads salt to prevent slipping. - Operates lawn movers and street sweeper to maintain the appearance of the hospital grounds. - Transports light and heavy furniture inside and outside the hospital by use of a truck, flatbed, carts and pallet lift/truck. - Assists in performing EVS functions when assigned as requested by supervisor. - Reports safety problems to the supervisor and Security Department. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in order to follow fertilizer/herbicide application directions and adhere to safety precautions. - Need one to three months onthejob training to learn lawn, landscape techniques, snow removal, and operation of motorized snow removal, lawn equipment and parking lot sweeper. - Requires judgment in selecting proper equipment and supplies and making minor adjustments to equipment utilized. - Requires the physical ability to frequently walk and stand for more than 90% of the work time while performing grounds keeping duties. - Requires the physical ability to frequently kneel, stoop, crawl, bend, twist and squat up to 75% of the work time. - Requires the physical ability to frequently lift and move materials weighing 20 to 45 pounds up to 50% of the work time. Occasionally will need to lift up to 80 lbs. - Occasionally moves up to 300 pounds by use of a hydraulic lift and carts, as well as operate lawn moving and snow removal equipment. - Requires the physical ability to frequently use both hands for simple grasping.
