Job Summary
The Chief Operating Officer, Children's Specialty Group (CSG) directs the business and clinical operations of CSG. This executive leader oversees the strategic planning, new program development, business and financial activities and the clinical service and delivery for the physicians and clinical staff who provide services for specialty group both at the main hospital and at additional locations throughout Wisconsin. This executive will also coordinate the Board of Directors activities and is the primary administrative link to the hospital and system executive teams. Additionally, this individual will play a key role in program development including recruitment of physicians and other staff, oversee annual operating budgets for the specialty practice units and the CSG development and administrative funds as well as for the Practice.
Minimum Requirements:
- Master's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Business or other related field required
- 10+ years management experience in strategically planning, directing, and leading large, academic focused, pediatric specialty practices Required
- Experience developing strategic and tactical plans to meet business objectives in a large healthcare system.
- Experience developing sound proposals and successfully implementing program/project plans. An understanding of health care delivery systems and health care dynamics.
- Demonstrates expert level problem-solving, creativity, and strategy development in the face of new competitive challenges.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills necessary to communicate effectively with senior administrators, department leaders, physicians, vendors, and clinical staff.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively form collaborative relationships with senior administrators, department managers/directors, physicians, vendors, and clinical staff.
Essential Functions:
- Oversees the financial operations of the practice in collaboration with Children’s senior leadership and finance.
- Actively involved in facilitating the development of new programs or new practice ventures including the oversight of development of business proforma’s, presentation to the Board of Directors, MCW and the Children’s executive teams.
- The primary link to the executive teams, attending weekly executive team meetings, ensuring that strategic plans between all parties are aligned and problem solving administrative, clinical or financial issues with appropriate parties.
- Oversees the CSG Board Committees ensuring that committees and Committee Chairs are in alignment with the CSG Strategic Plan, communicating with the BOD and ensuring that key stakeholders are kept informed of activities.
- Oversees the budget processes for the specialty practice units (SPU) with their leaders and administrators. Ensures that each department is following the budget guidelines and works with leaders to resolve concerns or problems.
- Leads the business development and marketing of the Practice. Approves all external communication and business development and marketing materials and ensures that key individuals within each entity are informed of all activities and have approved.
- Manages the relationship between the specialty group, Children’s and MCW to ensure the growth and success of the practice.
- Liaison for the practice on issues related to physician complaints on service. Responsible for evaluating with appropriate leadership and section chiefs and the link back to other entities.
- Maintains relationships with referring physicians and referring hospitals and their leadership and serves as the link back to individual specialty practice unit leadership.
- Performs people management responsibilities for employees which may include but are not limited to: employee engagement, recruitment, performance management and development.
This position reports to the President and Chief Operating Offer, Children’s Wisconsin Hospitals, and the Chief Executive Offer, Children’s Specialty Group. This is an on-site role.
