Job Summary
Administratively reporting to the Director – Pediatric Dental Residency Program and the Medical Director – Children's Dental Center, the Dental Resident is responsible for carrying out the clinical, didactic and teaching functions outlined below.
Essential Functions
Exhibits guiding behaviors that reflect Children’s values and support our mission and vision.
Clinical
Understands and satisfies the needs of the neonatal, infant, toddler, pre-school, school-age, adolescent and/or adult patient in regards to their growth and development process.
Provides dental services to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin Dental Center patients at both the Sinai Health Center and the Children’s Hospital locations as assigned. Participates in clinical rotation assignments as outlined in the dental residency program curriculum.
Provides inpatient consultations and inpatient care as requested by medical colleagues.
Provides after hour emergency care on an on-call basis as assigned.
Provides complex dental care to the very young and/or special needs child utilizing outpatient sedation and/or general anesthesia, while under the direct supervision of attending staff dentist.
Complies with all CHW and Dental Center policies and procedures, especially regarding patient registration, care documentation and billing, as well as safety, infection control and quality assurance.
Didactic
Attends and successfully completes courses provided by CHW staff and guest lecturers according to the curriculum established by the pediatric residency program and the American Dental Association.
Attends lectures, seminars and departmental meetings offered by the hospital.
Initiates a research project and/or data collection for future presentation.
- TeachingParticipates in off-service teaching rotations of undergraduates at Marquette University Dental School.
Education Requirements:
Graduated Dental School with a degree of D.D.S. or D.M.D. Required
Completed the National Dental Board examinations Required
Licenses and Certifications:
BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council required
PALS-Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council required
