Job Description Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and versatile Intellectual Property (IP) professional to join our Pharmaceutical Diagnostics (PDx) business division at GE Healthcare. This role is ideal for a mid-to-senior level candidate with deep expertise in either IP analysis or legal counselling—and a strong interest in developing professionally in the complementary area.The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in both shaping and executing IP strategy and conducting high-value patent and competitive intelligence analyses. This position offers an opportunity to work cross-functionally with R&D, Business Development, Regulatory, Medical Affairs and Product teams to protect innovation, assess risk, and drive business growth.
Job Description
Responsibilities
Strategic IP Counsel Functions
Partner with R&D and/or Sourcing to assess IP risks in product development and identify and protect commercially valuable inventions.
Manage patent filings, prosecution, and trade secrets.
Provide IP guidance on transactions including licensing and collaboration agreements.
Support due diligence for M&A and strategic partnerships.
Support and/or advise on IP litigation, oppositions, and post-grant proceedings as needed.
Technical IP Analytics Functions
Partner with R&D and/or Sourcing to identify need for and design search strategies for FTO, patentability, patent validity and competitive intelligence.
Partner with BD teams to assess patent and commercial landscapes to inform business decisions.
Manage or conduct structure-based and Boolean text searches using STN, Marpat, and other platforms or available databases.
Review, sort and/or prioritize retrieved search results, with analysis of claims and prosecution histories as needed.
Monitor third-party activities for potential misappropriation of company IP.
Qualifications
Qualified US or European Patent Agent or Attorney or equivalent (or near completion).
Technical background in chemistry, pharmacology, or related life sciences field.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable skills
Experience in life sciences, preferably diagnostics or therapeutics.
Prior independent management of complex IP projects.
Exposure to mechanical, digital, or software-related IP is a plus.
Prior experience in a corporate IP department and/or law firm.
