Job Description Summary
The Documentation Manager, Americas leads a team of technical writers responsible for creating and maintaining user and service documentation for GE Healthcare products. This includes support for both new product introductions and updates to the existing installed base. The role is accountable for ensuring documentation meets quality standards, adheres to development timelines, and aligns with project goals. Additionally, the manager is responsible for providing clear project updates and escalating issues as needed to ensure transparency and timely resolution.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of technical writers who support multiple modality and product releases. Foster a collaborative and productive work environment and ensure technical writers are effective in their roles
- Ensure on-time and on-budget release of documentation to meet new product introduction and installed base product releases. Identify and implement cost-savings opportunities related to content development and translations
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including modality product engineering, Quality, Regulatory and Global Services
- Maintain GEHC documentation standards and best practices. Ensure all documentation is accurate, comprehensive, and adheres to GEHC documentation standards. Conduct regular audits of tech writer work to ensure compliance with standards
- Identify areas for improvement in existing documentation processes and content. Implement and champion new technologies and tools across team to enhance documentation quality and efficiency
- Guide team’s content strategy across supported GEHC modalities. Ensure proper adherence to DITA information model, content management system requirements and content development best practices.
- Provide training and development opportunities for the documentation team. Encourage continuous learning and professional growth
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 7 years of experience with a strong understanding of product development, service processes, and the documentation IT ecosystem.
- Minimum of 5 years successfully managing and prioritizing multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.
Desired Characteristics
- Experience with documentation life cycle development and content authoring ecosystems.
- Knowledge of GEHC Engineering processes and operating mechanism
- Experience with DITA documentation and DITA information model.
- Proven project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage complex documentation programs.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including managing direct reports and guiding global, cross-functional teams.
- Preferred experience with business transformation tools such as Change Acceleration Process (CAP), LEAN, or similar methodologies.
