Job Description Summary

Make an impact at the intersection of innovation, healthcare, and advanced technology.

As a Lead MR Applications & System Tools Engineer, you will play a vital role on the MR Applications & IQ team, helping shape the future of Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging for both installed systems and next‑generation products. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys combining MR physics, signal and image processing, and software development to solve real‑world clinical and technical challenges.

You’ll collaborate closely with engineers, scientists, and product teams to develop high‑quality software tools that support system calibration, performance assessment, diagnostics, and troubleshooting. Whether you’re coming from academia, industry, or have recently completed a Master’s or Ph.D., this role offers a strong entry point into the industry side of MR technology, with encouragement to explore multiple application areas and grow your expertise.

Job Description

What You’ll Do

  • Design and develop software tools that support MR system calibration, performance monitoring, diagnostics, and troubleshooting, with a particular focus on hardware insight and system health.
  • Apply your knowledge of MR physics, signal processing, and imaging to create innovative MR applications and system tools.
  • Partner with MR software and service organizations to help define and evolve the long‑term system tools software platform strategy.
  • Transform prototype applications into robust, product‑quality software by optimizing for reliability, performance, reuse, and long‑term maintainability.
  • Collaborate with a cross‑functional team of engineers, scientists, and product managers to translate high‑level MR workflow and application needs into clear, actionable software requirements.
  • Contribute as an embedded member of an Agile software development team, delivering new features aligned with program priorities.
  • Develop, integrate, and test software components in alignment with established software development policies and quality standards.
  • Document requirements, designs, verification activities, and other development artifacts in accordance with GE Healthcare and local quality processes.

What You’ll Bring (Required Qualifications)

We recognize that great candidates may gain experience in different ways. If you meet most of the qualifications below, we encourage you to apply.

  • Master’s degree in an engineering or science field such as Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Physics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Physics.
  • Approximately 3 years of relevant professional or research experience (including Ph.D. training) working with MR systems.
  • Approximately 3 years of experience in MR technical research and application development.
  • Approximately 3 years of experience with object‑oriented software design and development using C++ and/or Python.
  • A solid foundation in MR physics and imaging principles, as well as signal and image processing techniques.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

What Can Help You Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Ph.D. in an engineering or science field such as Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Physics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Physics.
  • Deeper knowledge of digital signal processing and image processing algorithms and mathematical transforms.
  • Familiarity with GE MR systems or similar MR development environments.
  • Experience with Linux‑based software development on x86 platforms.
  • Interest in learning how advanced MR technology moves from research into real‑world clinical and service applications.

Why Join This Team

  • Learn the industry side of MR: Gain hands‑on exposure to how cutting‑edge MR research becomes scalable, reliable products used in clinical settings worldwide.
  • Grow your expertise: You’ll be encouraged to explore a wide range of MR application areas, with support and mentorship from experienced team members.
  • Collaborative culture: Work within a cross‑functional, Agile environment where diverse perspectives are valued and teamwork is essential.
  • On‑the‑job learning: While imaging, signal processing, MR physics, and software fundamentals are key starting points, GE‑specific systems and tools are taught and supported.
  • Meaningful impact: Your work will directly contribute to improving MR system performance, reliability, and patient care.
