In this role, you will help lead proactive media storytelling, message and visual material development that showcases how Johnson Controls technology and innovation solves real‑world challenges for mission‑critical customers across sectors such as data centers, healthcare, education, and advanced manufacturing, where reliability, efficiency and resilience are non‑negotiable.

This role requires a unique combination of strategic narrative leadership, creative execution and operational excellence. You will help to elevate company’s global media narrative - setting direction and ensuring complex stories are translated into data-driven and compelling and consistent messages - while also acting as a disciplined operator who strengthens standards, processes and ways of working across the global PR community.

Working closely with the wider PR, Communications and Marketing teams, you will lead and continually evaluate communication strategies, while bringing new and innovative ideas to the table.

How you will do it:

  • Lead proactive media storytelling that highlights product innovation and differentiation, customer impact and business priorities across Johnson Controls’ portfolio, with particular focus on products for mission critical environments such as healthcare, education and advanced manufacturing.

  • Identify opportunities to create new and reoccurring news moments, keeping abreast of current events and news cycles and business developments.

  • Translate complex, highly technical topics into clear, concise, media‑ready narratives grounded in data and customer outcomes. Includes visual representation of technical topics.

  • Develop high‑quality media materials including press releases, media pitches, key messaging, toolkits, omni channel content; supporting global PR campaigns and areas of focus.

  • Experiment with and apply AI enabled tools to accelerate content creation, insight generation and media planning, while maintaining editorial rigor and brand integrity.

  • Develop and oversee visual storytelling, including infographics, simplified diagrams and executive ready slides, that bring technical concepts to life for media and external audiences.

  • Collaborate across PR, brand, marketing, digital and sustainability teams to uncover stories and amplify content across earned and owned channels for greater reach and impact.

  • Partner closely with subject‑matter experts and executives to shape confident, media‑ready messages from complex information.

  • Strengthen the global PR function by establishing and improving standards, processes, tools and community cadence to enable effective, connected ways of working.

  • Implement and manage process to amplify and reimagine content to drive greater reach awareness and impact.

  • Use media monitoring and insights to measure impact, inform strategy and continuously refine storytelling approaches.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key journalists, editors and media outlets; leverage existing relationships to advance proactive storytelling.

  • Help manage and deploy third-party agencies to support PR activities and optimize external use of agency resources.

  • Direct and monitor incoming media inquiries and responses.

  • Support key media events, as needed.

What we look for:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of experience in corporate communications or public relations, with a focus on media relations or executive communications.

  • Demonstrated success telling complex innovation or technology stories, grounded in customer use cases and outcomes.

  • Comfort using AI and emerging technologies to enhance storytelling, accelerate workflows and push creative boundaries, paired with strong editorial judgment.

  • Strong visual communication skills, including experience with graphic design tools or executive level slide creation to distill complex ideas.

  • Experience using media monitoring and measurement tools to assess impact and guide strategy.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with external audiences and internal teams, with the ability to convey complex ideas simply and effectively.

  • Established relationships with key media contacts and outlets.

  • Ability to think critically and adapt to changing situations while maintaining composure

  • Passion for delivering exceptional customer experiences and a commitment to exceeding customer expectations
