Job Overview

The Product Manager is responsible for the strategic direction of the Electric Rope Shovel portfolio, managing the machines options & pricing, development plans, and new product introduction initiatives.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strategic product plan, including market requirements, competitive landscape, gaps, product positioning, lifecycle, pricing, operations footprint, and product support plan.
  • Drives new product development (NPD) for electric rope shovels, with heavy participation in the programs and ownership of the initiation and definition of new systems.
  • Works with the development team to create feature backlogs and product documentation such as user stories, use cases, logic flows and functional specifications.
  • Executes product management activity including product positioning, product launches, technical sales support presentations and dealer sales training
  • Supports sales and production introductions for assigned portion of electric rope shovel portfolio across Komastu sales and dealer network
  • Understands and communicates market dynamics for electric rope shovels through market research and relationships with customers, third parties and region sales & service personnel.
  • Communicates strategic product plan to business stakeholders and implement value add changes to strategy as required.
  • Conducts VOC/VOB as required in support of understanding market, customer needs both current and future. Translates VOB/VOC into ideas for new features or systems and develop supporting business documentation Coordinate closely with Shovel Program Manager around NPD process and required support from Product Management team
  • Works with dealers and customers to support Pilot machine/design trials. Act as conduit between factory and dealers as it pertains to NPD projects.
  • Visits customers and distributors to present products, build relationships and understand applications, requirements, and market. Hosts factory visits from customers.
  • Creates marketing materials for products with Marketing Communications, including presentations, competitive comparisons, animations, videos, literature, and promotional materials.
  • Performs research on industry conditions, product performance and competitive activity.
  • Builds and leverage relationships with customers, Region sales & service personnel, and other suppliers in the industry to achieve the level of expertise needed to properly position our products. Prepare technical presentations and present at industry conferences.
  • Global travel up to 40% to surface mining areas

Qualifications/Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Marketing or related field is required.
  • 5-7 years’ experience in product development, product marketing, engineering, or other technical equipment roles
  • Experience with global mining industry
  • Experience with Electric rope shovels highly preferred
  • Must have excellent communication and public speaking skills with an ability to demonstrate confidence in material knowledge.
  • Technical aptitude and experience with market analysis, strategic planning, and equipment sales
