Job Overview

The Production Supervisor – Heavy Fabrication & Welding (2nd Shift) will lead Heavy Fabrication and Welding operations within our union manufacturing environment at our Komatsu South Harbor Facility in Milwaukee, WI.

This role is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of production team members including fabricators, welders (sub-arc, hex-chrome, fit-up/tack, 3/32 flux core), inspectors, machine setters and operators, assemblers, and precision workers.

The Production Supervisor carries out leadership responsibilities in accordance with company policies, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable laws. This position plays a key role in driving a culture of safety excellence and Zero Harm.

2nd Shift Schedule:

  • Supervisor start time: 1:30 PM

  • Production shift start time: 2:00 PM

  • Participation in a rotating weekend coverage schedule (approximately every 4–6 weeks)

  • Participation in a holiday coverage rotation as assigned

  • Additional overtime hours may be required based on production demands

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet output goals

  • Lead, coach, and develop shop personnel to drive performance and engagement

  • Enforce safety standards, company policies, and manufacturing processes

  • Maintain safe working conditions and champion a culture of Zero Harm

  • Review and analyze work orders, schedules, charts, and reports to determine production requirements

  • Coordinate operations within and between departments

  • Monitor production and quality standards to ensure compliance with specifications

  • Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, job orders, and policies for team members

  • Conduct performance evaluations and support employee development

  • Address employee concerns, complaints, or grievances in partnership with leadership and union representatives

  • Balance timesheets and review daily labor metrics

  • Prepare and maintain departmental reports (production, safety, quality, etc.)

  • Oversee equipment and supply needs, coordinating repairs or replacements as necessary

  • Promote shop floor organization and 5S standards

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move components up to 40 lbs independently (40+ lbs with assistance or lifting devices)

  • Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, heat, welding fumes, dust, and moving equipment

  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces as required

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during shift

  • Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and navigating production areas

  • Must be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including steel-toed boots, hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, and welding-related PPE as required

  • Willingness to work shifts, overtime, weekends, and respond to operational needs as necessary

Qualifications/Requirements

  • High School Diploma required; technical degree or higher preferred

  • 1+ years of related supervisory or manufacturing leadership experience preferred

  • Previous supervision in Heavy Fabrication and/or Welding (sub-arc, hex-chrome, fit-up/tack, 3/32 flux core) strongly preferred

  • Prior union supervision or experience in a union environment preferred

  • Experience conducting Root Cause Investigations preferred

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications

  • Experience with lifting and rigging practices preferred

  • Proficient computer skills; ERP experience strongly preferred

  • Ability and willingness to work 2nd Shift (1:30 PM start), including overtime, weekends, or extended hours as business needs require
