Summary:

The Wisconsin Herd is looking for a passionate public relations/community relations intern for the upcoming 2024-25 NBA G League season this fall! Come work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment and learn the ins and outs of public relations and community relations in the sports industry. The intern will be assisting the public relations department with their day-to-day operations on a wide range of projects, including digital initiatives, community relations activities, and public relations activities that maintain the continuity and integrity of the Milwaukee Bucks brand and its various entities, including Wisconsin Herd, Bucks Gaming, Fiserv Forum and Deer District. The intern must also be available to provide public relations support for all home Wisconsin Herd games and away games, as needed for the 2024-25 season. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and hardworking with superior communications skills. Previous sports experience is not required, but is a plus. Communications interns will divide time between office hours and game functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support teams' digital communication efforts including writing newsletter copy, game stories, news stories, press releases and assisting with website updates
  • Assist with media pitching and media relations
  • Assist with game notes, stats distribution and game night duties
  • Monitor media requests and create media credentials
  • Help implement the Wisconsin Herd’s community relations programs including orchestrating visits/appearances, fulfilling donation requests, hosting game night guests, non-profit of the night partners, hand-out promotional materials, etc.
  • Conduct media interviews on game days for digital communication efforts
  • Research community events and calendars to incorporate Herd activation
  • Monitor news stories and share internally with staff
  • Assist broadcast partner with responsibilities as assigned
  • Basic office duties and other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate is highly motivated with a strong work ethic and positive demeanor
  • High proficiency in both written and verbal communications.
  • Excellent customer service skills that showcase a positive and hardworking approach
  • Analytical skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Capacity to think creatively and contribute new insights.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle a variety of responsibilities on deadline.
  • Ability to think and react quickly and appropriately to unpredictable situations.
  • Ability to work all Wisconsin Herd home games, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to cover Wisconsin Herd away games, if needed
  • Knowledge of and passion for basketball, able to understand basketball statistics
  • Available to work 20+ hours a week (including assigned game coverage)

Education and Experience

  • You are enrolled in a college or university and be an upcoming junior or senior
  • Studying for a degree in Communications/PR, Journalism and sport management preferred and a desire to work in sports
  • Previous sports experience is not required but is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and general computer skills.
