Summary:

This role serves an integral role as a member of the Bucks Communications team, assisting with all internal and external basketball-related communications efforts. You will work consistently with local, national and international media and broadcast to promote the Bucks organization and fulfill the day-to-day communications responsibilities and obligations of an NBA team. As the Senior Communications Manager, you will lead all aspects of the team’s media spaces and media protocols for home games at Fiserv Forum while being a valued resource for media, broadcast and visiting team personnel. You will lead the department’s full-time Communications Coordinator and part-time Seasonal Assistant, Game Night Assistants and Scoring & Timing crew

Responsibilities:

  • Attend all home games, practices and shootarounds and help fulfill pre and postgame and post-practice/shootaround media availability requests for coach and players
  • Serve as a liaison for local, national and international media and broadcast in addition to visiting team PR, broadcast and media for home games
  • Serve as one of two Communications representatives for a number of the team’s road games
  • Assist in fulfilling all media obligations on the road for players and coaches
  • In some instances, handle and distribute the team’s ticket allotment for players, coaches and staff
  • Travel for NBA events such as All-Star and Summer League
  • Write and distribute basketball-related press releases and announcements
  • Work with the Communications Coordinator to oversee, plan and complete publications for the department including daily game notes, the annual media guide and postseason media guide
  • Put together other game-related media materials (roster pages, starting lineups, stats, etc.) and media seating charts, and distribute to media and broadcast each game
  • Handle the day-to-day needs of the Bucks Media Info X account by posting practice/shootaround availability schedules, in-game injury updates, stats and other useful information
  • Manage the team’s scoring & timing crew (“stats crew”), by maintaining a strong group of backups, allowing for backups to gain experience and practice when necessary, and scheduling positions that have multiple people
  • Manage the department’s Seasonal Assistant and Game Night Assistant(s)
  • Assist in creating and sending one-sheets to promote players for All-Star and end of season NBA awards
  • Play a large role in the planning and execution of communications-specific events, including the team’s annual media day, draft coverage and other basketball-related press conferences
  • Help with messaging and talking points throughout the season for the team’s general manager, head coach, players and other front office staff
  • Be the organization’s primary contact for NBA season credentials and credentials for other NBA events (All-Star, Summer League, international games)
  • Help with non-basketball related press releases, initiatives, promotions and announcements for community relations, marketing, partnerships, Fiserv Forum and Deer District
  • Occasionally assist with scheduling interviews for business personnel

Qualifications:

  • BA or BS in Communications, public relations, journalism, marketing administration or a related field
  • 5-7 years of PR experience
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to work flexible, non-conventional hours including evenings and weekends
  • Willingness to work independently with general instructions
  • Must be able to travel
  • Ability to set priorities and balance multiple projects at the same time
