Summary:
The Wisconsin Herd is looking for a passionate community relations intern for the upcoming 2025-26 NBA G League season! Come work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment and learn the ins and outs of community relations in the sports industry. The intern will be assisting the community relations and public relations departments with their day-to-day operations on a wide range of projects, including digital initiatives, community relations activities, and public relations activities that maintain the continuity and integrity of the Milwaukee Bucks brand and its various entities, including Wisconsin Herd, Bucks Gaming, Fiserv Forum and Deer District. The intern must also be available to provide support for all home Wisconsin Herd games and away games, as needed for the 2025-26 season. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and hardworking with superior communication skills. Previous sports experience is not required but is a plus. The community relations intern will divide time between office hours and game functions.
Responsibilities:
- Help implement the Wisconsin Herd’s community relations programs including orchestrating community visits/appearances, handling theme jersey auctions, fulfilling donation requests, assisting with the 50/50 raffle, etc.
- Research community events and calendars to incorporate Herd activation
- Serve as the team mascot’s handler at events
- Assist with Herd games, events, or promotions on nights and weekends as needed
- Build relationships with nonprofit groups via outbound telephone efforts and enhance those relationships through frequent communication
- Create and update the theme jersey auction webpages and assist in responding to requests and distribution
- Assist with game notes, stats distribution, and game night duties
- Create and monitor gameday credentials
- Monitor news stories and share internally with staff
- Assist broadcast partner with responsibilities as assigned
- Basic office duties and other responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate is highly motivated with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- High proficiency in both written and verbal communications.
- Excellent customer service skills that showcase a positive and enthusiastic approach
- Analytical skills and strong attention to detail.
- Capacity to think creatively and contribute new insights.
- Ability to multi-task and handle a variety of responsibilities on deadline.
- Ability to think and react quickly and appropriately to unpredictable situations.
- Ability to work office hours and duties as assigned.
- Ability to work all Wisconsin Herd home games, including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to cover Wisconsin Herd away games remotely, if needed.
- Knowledge of and passion for basketball, able to understand basketball statistics
- Available 20+ hours a week (including assigned game coverage).
- Must be currently enrolled in a college or university and be an upcoming junior or senior
- Studying for a degree in Communications/PR, Journalism and sport management is preferred with a desire to work in sports
- Previous sports experience is not required but is a plus.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and general computer skills.
