Full Stack Software Engineer III - Managed Investments Engineering
Play a key role in building and supporting Northwestern Mutual’s technology (both custom developed and vended) for our Investment Operations and Investment Accounting teams. In this position, work with a group of engineers to build high-quality applications, sourcing and integrating investment data, and providing analytic capabilities to our business stakeholders.
To support our growing team, we are seeking a strong developer, who is passionate about developing solutions that meet business needs, is a quick learner, enjoys daily interaction with business and technology teams and is comfortable with both vended applications and custom development.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Ability to be a self-starter and take initiative on high priority items.
- Establish, aggregate, and share team standards and best practices within department.
- Assess and provide solutions to system-wide architectural problems.
- Develop and modernize technology solutions to support our Investments Function.
- Implement solutions that streamline middle and back-office operations.
- Work with both vendor-provided software and custom-built solutions.
- Collaborate across engineering teams as well as business stakeholders to meet business needs and objectives.
- Make architecture decisions to support current and future business needs
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
- 2-4 years of experience working with modern engineering tools, languages and practices.
- Intermediate proficiency with Python, SQL, Java and CI/CD, required.
- Preferred experience with Snowflake and DBT.
- Preferred experience with Batch (Control-M), AWS, NodeJS, Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, React.
- Demonstrated critical thinking, ownership mindset and continuous learning.
- Experience developing solutions using agile methods.
- Capable of communicating between product, engineering, and the business.
- Solid understanding of design patterns, frameworks and architecture.
- Strong background in working with financial data.
- Experience with vendor-provided software solutions and custom-built solutions.
