What's the role?
Northwestern Mutual is looking for enthusiastic technologists who want to grow their career in DevSecOps within the SaaS and Email Security Domains. In this position, you will work with cross-functional teams while leveraging a set of diverse technologies and an automation first approach to strive towards improving the efficiency and effectiveness of our Enterprise Product Security Organization.
In this role, the candidate can expect to:
- Engineer cybersecurity solutions with a heavy focus on automation to reduce manual and repetitive tasks.
- Take current legacy solutions as well as new capability implementations that are in progress and support movement beyond MVP
- Design, implement, and maintain procedures, processes, and methodologies that support DevSecOps capabilities
- Engage in process development and optimization efforts and systems engineering functions.
- Analyze operations to look for trends that impact performance, efficiency and security posture. Seek, design and implement solutions that are either technical or procedural or enabled through automation.
- Train and mentor teammates
- Keep abreast of security trends, industry security frameworks and changing standards in the SaaS and Email Security space; maintain a superior knowledge of capabilities and vendor product offerings in this space
- The primary expectation for this role is to serve as a developer; although, the engineering and operational support of our technologies is a team effort.

- Must be proficient with development and scripting languages: Python, PowerShell, Bash, and/or .NET preferred

Preferred Skills and Experience
- Advanced education in information systems, software engineering, computer science, systems engineering or cybersecurity. Education comes in various forms: Degrees, certifications, traditional 4 year college and technical institutes, life/work experiences - we value diverse backgrounds.
- 3-5+ years' experience in development, infrastructure, or cybersecurity
- Experience with CICD pipelines to automate application and infrastructure code deployments
- Understanding of a wide-range of cybersecurity capabilities including security engineering, identify & access management, incident response, logging & monitoring, penetration testing, and vulnerability management
- Solid knowledge of collaboration security solutions (email security filtering tools, M365, Slack and Zoom security configurations, CASB, etc) and SaaS Configuration Management pertinent to security best practices. Note: All of these domains are not required, but applicants should understand the breadth of the team's responsibilities (and should be motivated by that).
- Solid written and verbal communications skills
Plus, to have:
- Relevant certifications from GIAC, ISC(2) and other recognized cybersecurity industry organizations
