Job Summary

The Engineering Manager - Relay/SCADA plans, organizes and directs field personnel engaged in the operation, maintenance and construction of protection and control systems of the We Energies Electric Distribution System, the American Transmission Company Transmission System, and the We Energies power plants in Southeast Wisconsin and Fox Valley. The Engineering Manager supervises represented employees in various testing occupations who perform installation and commissioning, programming and coordination, relay calibration and testing, and maintenance and repair. The Engineering Manager ensures that electrical testing work is performed in a safe, high quality and cost-efficient manner.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop annual forecasts of the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) devices for We Energies and ATC, that We Energies maintains, that are required to be tested, and schedules the work and any associated outages to ensure that appropriate resources are available to complete the plan.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all NERC testing is completed on schedule, and that maintenance and testing records are properly updated.
  • Provide leadership to the Relay/SCADA group by conducting operational meetings and interfacing with multiple entities both internal and external to We Energies on operational, maintenance and design matters concerning electrical protection and control systems.
  • Conduct safety meetings, perform field safety audits, identify areas in need of improvement and implement corrective actions, and conduct accident investigations.
  • Communicate with personnel about changes to schedule, availability of personnel, site readiness, readiness of work for release, and the like. Participate in managing overtime with a focus on cost containment, while maintaining optimal service.
  • Prepare labor hour estimates for construction projects based on defined and undefined work scopes to assist in the budgeting and project approval processes.
  • Investigate and follow-up on system significant events including recommendations to prevent recurrence.
  • Review and approve practices, procedures and guidelines for the performance of field activities associated with testing, maintenance and commissioning of protective relays and SCADA equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • Valid driver’s license and meet the company’s requirements for driving
  • 7+ years relevant engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supervising others.

This position requires unescorted access to certain critical cyber assets which would require applicants to satisfy all Company and NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection Standard 004 security requirements, which includes a background investigation.

  • Protective relay knowledge and experience

Pay Range Minimum: $119,696.20

Pay Range Maximum: $179,544.04

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs. At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
