Job Summary

The Solutions Architect (backend focused) plays a critical role in designing, implementing and optimizing backend solutions essential to the delivery of core insurance capabilities and user experiences. The ideal candidate will be highly experienced with complex data integration patterns underpinned by APIs, microservices, asynchronous event-driven messaging and Cloud computing. We are seeking an individual with a strategic mindset, coupled with practical skills. Candidates experienced with stewarding consensus and building partnerships across diverse stakeholders will thrive in this role.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

  • Collaborate across IT to align product roadmaps with enterprise backend architecture.
  • Design and visualize scalable, reliable, and secure backend solutions.
  • Seamlessly blend new solutions with existing systems to extend current capabilities.
  • Evaluate and recommend SaaS and self-hosted vendor solutions, where applicable.
  • Execute proofs-of-architecture to demonstrate the fitness of designs.
  • Assess emerging technologies and trends to drive continuous innovation.
  • Maintain solution blueprints and related architecture documents.
  • Supply technical thought leadership and guidance to engineering teams, ensuring best practices and standards.
  • Architectural review and oversight of peer proposals and solutions.
  • Ensure solutions comply with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Refine architecturally significant backlog items to guide delivery expectations.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience architecting backend solutions, preferably within the insurance or financial services industry.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Proactive and collaborative attitude.
  • Analytical and systematic approach to solving/solutioning problems.
  • A willingness to continually learn and grow.
  • Proficiency with Agile delivery frameworks, like Scrum.
  • Substantial practical experience with:
    • A Cloud computing platform. Azure preferred.
    • Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery/Deployment. Azure DevOps preferred.
    • RESTful API and Services Development. C# preferred.
    • Asynchronous Event-driven Messaging Technologies. Azure Service Bus preferred.
    • Modern Identity with OIDC and OAuth2 protocols.

Differentiators:

  • OpenAPI and AsyncAPI design-first techniques and tooling. SwaggerHub preferred.
  • Saga Distributed Transaction Patterns and Technologies. NServiceBus preferred.
  • Domain-driven design and group modelling techniques. Event Storming preferred.
  • MV* Design Patterns.
  • Generative AI, LLMs, SLMs, RAG, etc.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
