Job Summary

Analyzes and interprets insurance data to support ratemaking, pricing, and reserving decisions. Develops and maintains statistical reports, recommends rate changes, and provides data-driven justification for company filings and business planning.

Work Location

This position offers a hybrid work schedule. Candidates who are located within 50 miles of a West Bend office location will work a hybrid schedule for collaboration days, team meetings or other in-person events. The position can be based in West Bend or Madison.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

As an entry-level Actuarial Analyst at West Bend Insurance Company, you will support actuarial functions related to Commercial Property, General Liability, Commercial Auto, and Umbrella lines. You’ll contribute to pricing, reserving, and risk analysis efforts that drive strategic decisions across underwriting, claims, and finance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist in developing rate indications and pricing models for commercial lines.
  • Retrieve and analyze statistical data using query tools and spreadsheets.
  • Prepare experience reports and loss cost projections to support rate filings.
  • Monitor company performance by segment and line of business.
  • Provide statistical justification for regulatory filings and internal planning.
  • Collaborate with senior actuaries and cross-functional teams to support business initiatives.

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel and data manipulation tools.
  • Familiarity with SQL, R, Python, or other statistical software is a plus.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings.

Preferred Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Completion of at least 1–2 actuarial exams (CAS track preferred).
  • Internship or project experience in insurance or data analytics is beneficial.

Salary Statement

The salary range for this position is $75,000-$94,000.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity. Compensation decisions are made by West Bend and are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
