Badger Meter is hiring a Reliability Engineer II for an onsite role at our Global HQ in Milwaukee WI. This role will focus on investigating product returns and identifying solutions using failure analysis. We are open to mid-level to senior level engineers.
This technical position is expected to work independently with little oversight while receiving general direction from a more senior engineer, supervisor, or manager. This Reliability Engineer position will work closely with Quality, Design Engineering, and Systems Monitoring teams to lead and execute in-depth investigations of returned products. Typical workflow will include sampling failed units, performing root cause analysis, identifying failure trends, and documenting results and actions. The engineer will compose reports, presentations, summaries, and distribute or present findings to peers, cross-functional teams, and all levels of management.
Experience in troubleshooting, reliability, quality, or returns-processing of products
Experience with statistics, analysis, and data organization
Experience with failure and root cause analysis and methodologies
Understanding of scripting languages (Python/Jupyter Notebooks), databases (SQL), or other programming
Background with technical skillset or bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, statistics, physics, or related field
Ability to work autonomously and to maintain a high level of organization for the investigations
Duties:
This individual will be directly responsible for managing, implementing, documenting, and communicating root cause analysis for field return investigations. This engineer must work autonomously with limited direction from a more senior engineer, supervisor, or manager, and must possess strong self-organization skills. The work will include physical inspection and testing, data collection, evaluation, cross-functional collaboration with other teams, and reporting findings to others via email, written reports, and presentations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
3+ years of experience required
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or related field with a solid foundation of engineering fundamentals preferred (Associate degree required)
Experience in troubleshooting, reliability, quality, or returns-processing of products.
Experience with electronic test equipment such as multimeters and oscilloscopes
Experience with statistics, analysis, and data organization
Experience with failure and root cause analysis and methodologies
Understanding of scripting languages (Python/Jupyter Notebooks), databases (SQL), or other programming
Ability to work autonomously and to maintain a high level of organization for the investigations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to do the following on a primarily independent basis: Define the actual problem, test multiple scenarios, troubleshoot issues, implement appropriate solutions and communicate results and outcomes- Preferred
Solid Product knowledge- Preferred
Demonstrated strong initiative and motivation- Preferred
Demonstrated ability to effectively solve problems- Preferred
Demonstrated appropriate judgment/decision-making / for their level of authority- Preferred
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift, manipulate, and safely move product for testing purposes (typically 10-20 lbs.)
Must be able to work in a production environment safely with appropriate PPE and understanding of hazards.
Must be able to clean, inspect, and test product mechanically and electronically
