What You Will Contribute:
The Manager, Plastics Engineering is responsible for ensuring the development of robust processes for new tooling launches as well as ensuring that existing tooling is supported and leveraging advancements in technology. This role aids in resolving processing issues, ensuring thorough documentation and effective communication of findings. In addition, this role evaluates and makes recommendations for key processing equipment, molding processes, and maintains an in-depth understanding of the latest molding technologies. Direct Reports include several engineers. Key internal customers for this role include Sustaining Engineering, Product Engineering, Quality, Production, Procurement, as well as several other manufacturing locations across North America. The Plastics Manager draws on both hard and soft skills to motivate their team to achieve the defined strategic goals, producing metrics to measure those goals to minimize any deviations to established plans.
Job Duties:
Acts as a liaison between Quality, Engineering, and Manufacturing departments for tooling and process related issues across multiple manufacturing facilities
Provides detailed information on part design and mold design impacts on processing and provides recommendations for related processing issues
Helps evaluate new and existing technologies, defining and executing a roadmap aimed at improving the tooling and equipment to support strategic objectives of the company
Establishes and fosters key relationships throughout the organization, enabling effective communication to execute on commitments, deliver results, and drive critical issues simultaneously
Supports Design Engineering to optimize part design for processing improvements
Supports Procurement in the development of new tooling to support NPD & outsource existing
Education and Experience:
Associates degree in Plastics, Engineering or a related field required
7+ years of related experience in Molding, Plastics, Engineering desired; Prior Management experience highly desired. Significant years of experience may be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
Qualifications:
Master Molder Certification required
Advanced knowledge of tooling concepts and molding processes required
Advanced working knowledge of GD&T, DFMEA, PFMEA, and other engineering principles
Thorough understanding of Scientific Injection Molding Principles required
Ability to lead a technical support staff responsible for supporting day-to-day operations required
