What You Will Contribute:
The Sr. Automation Engineer’s primary job function is to identify, justify and deploy automated systems that drive our production and manufacturing processes. Collaboration with departmental and corporate leadership will be essential in identifying existing automation capabilities and future opportunities and creating detailed project roadmaps aligned with our business objectives. The Sr. Automation Engineer will mentor newer engineers in their projects and may delegate tasks as appropriate. The Sr. Automation Engineer ensures that processes and controls are developed to ensure the quality and workmanship for products and services meet or exceed customer expectations as defined by the Engineering Design and Marketing Specifications.
Job Duties:
Lead the identification and implementation process for sustaining manufacturing-based automation projects to ensure projects meet cost and timing objectives. Define the scope of a task/project and develop or provide input to schedules and budgeting, ensure execution meets both schedule and budget targets.
Research, evaluate, and implement new manufacturing, assembly, test, and pack technologies that place Badger Meter Inc. in a position of technological leadership to enhance the quality, reliability, and value of products and services to the customer while improving the cost position of the company.
Apply Six Sigma and Statistical Process Control principles to new and existing processes to drive reduction in variation and yield improvement.
Stay up to date with the latest trends in Automation and bring those solutions to Badger Meter where applicable.
Drive growth through continuous improvement of manufacturing and automation processes.
Act as a mentor to other Manufacturing Engineers.
Collaborate with the Digital Manufacturing team to identify and implement successful systems integration and monitoring tools.
Ensure project completeness by creating work instructions, training operators, collaborate with maintenance for spare parts and PM setup for all new automation systems.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field required.
5+ years of experience with a concentration on automation project work desired.
Qualifications:
Certified Professional Engineer preferred
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt required from an accredited firm; Lean Six Sigma Black Belt preferred
Advanced foundation in engineering fundamentals required
Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, IO-Link), SCADA systems preferred
Familiarity with PLC programming (Rockwell and Siemens preferred) and machine vision systems (Cognex and Keyence preferred) preferred
Experience with Rockwell Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View Studio, Siemens, Cognex machine vision, Fanuc robotics, Kepware or other IoT/SCADA platforms required
Proven track record in designing and implementing automated systems required
Strong design and analytics skills required
Demonstrated ability to drive projects to completion required
Knowledge of all Safety Systems and machine-guarding principles required
Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic systems, and mechatronic systems required
Familiarity with robotics programming and integration required
Familiarity with Industry 4.0 concepts and IoT integration required
