Facilities Project Manager

Summary
Serves as the design professional and project manager on facility renovations and new construction projects. Responsible for all phases of project execution from conceptual design to final occupancy to ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget.
Primary Responsibilities
Review internal work requests and discusses project scope with supervisor, conduct site survey, collect data, create design solutions and detailed drawings in compliance with architectural principles and construction codes.
Complete management of capital projects from project programming and planning through construction administration and project closeout, including project budget and schedule, and coordination of internal and external constituencies. Manage outside consultants and vendors related to the project development and implementation.
Project management activities require interaction with various users and constituencies to achieve consensus on the proposed design solution and implementation.
Participate in the planning for both short-term and long-term capital projects with members of planning, budget, finance, and Campus Operations.
Participate with other Campus Operations core groups on decisions related to physical facility and systems upgrades to meet institutional requirements.
Conduct periodic studies related to facility and site requirements of the organization on and off campus locations.
Participate on various internal and campus-wide committees relating to facility development and long-range planning.
Negotiate and manage final contracts with external entities in support of facility planning functions.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge – Skills – Abilities
Demonstrated managerial and administrative skills, preferably in academic medicine/higher education or laboratory research.
Extensive experience in facilities planning, construction planning and oversight.
Familiarity with Wisconsin building codes and federal ADA requirements.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong critical thinking, problem solving and attentiveness to detail required.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team and capable of adapting to changing priorities.
Must be self-directed, and have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
Candidate must have the maturity and sound judgment to interface with faculty and senior leadership of the College, and with entities external to the institution.
Qualifications
Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.
Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Minimum Required Experience: 5 years of progressively responsible academic or healthcare experience relating to facility planning, project management, architectural design or construction administration. Must be knowledgeable in Auto/CAD and Microsoft Project.
Preferred Education: Master’s Degree
Preferred Experience: 7+ years of progressively responsible academic or healthcare experience relating to facility planning, project management, architectural design or construction administration. Labratory research experience preferred. Experience with BIM, CAFM software and Workday.
Preferred Certification/Licensure(s): Project Management Certificate (PMP)
Physical Requirements
Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.
Work Environment
Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.
Sensory Acuity
Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
