Summary

The Office of Research helps to facilitate life-saving biomedical research at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Nine distinct units provide specialized support to meet the administrative needs of our investigators and research staff. Together, we coordinate, regulate, and monitor research studies as well as provide high-quality services for investigative teams. The MCW Libraries supports all institutional missions and partners by providing access to and support for information resources and specialized services for faculty, researchers, students, clinicians, staff, and community members.

This position supports the planning, coordination and promotion of library resources and services to faculty clinicians, researchers, and learners. Additionally, the Librarian develops and delivers resource and skills training to support clinical research, patient care, and teaching and learning. This is an on-site role with work locations at the Medical College of Wisconsin Todd Wehr Library and Froedtert Hospital.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Plan and develop training and services in support of our clinical, research, and education missions.
  • Provide research and information services to researchers and clinical teams as part of the library’s Clinical Medical Librarian service.
  • Identify and support key stakeholder groups and councils.
  • Support Medical College of Wisconsin and affiliates’ scholarly activities.
  • Provide outreach services and training to clinical faculty, medical students, residents, fellows, health professionals and health care consumers.
  • Assist users with current technologies and their applications.
  • Provide library resource and service orientations and instruction presentations.
  • Provide support for the Library’s scientific poster printing service.
  • Maintain current knowledge of biomedical research trends, practices, and information retrieval methods.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

* Knowledge of academic libraries' operations.
* Experience with health sciences resources and knowledge of health information.
* Experience with developing and delivering in-person and online instruction.
* Ability to work with diverse individuals across the institution to foster inclusion and belonging, particularly as it relates to providing information services.
* Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Ability to successfully adapt to and manage change with a growth mindset.
* Ability to identify and overcome obstacles to getting the work done.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality.
* Ability to solve problems logically.

Qualifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.

Minimum Required Education: Master’s Degree or higher in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution, or equivalent

Minimum Required Experience: 2 years of related experience, preferably in a clinical/hospital setting

Field of Study: Healthcare, Education, Library Services

Preferred Certification/Licensure(s): Medical Library Association Academy of Health Information Professionals credentials preferred.

Physical Requirements

Work requires infrequent physical effort, such as walking or retrieving materials.

Work Environment

May experience slightly disagreeable features such as temperature changes or noise from time to time. Work performed in an environmentally controlled environment.

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
