Summary

As a Clinical Pathology Technologist I, under general supervision, you will work as part of a team in a clinical diagnostic research laboratory that provides and evaluates molecular, microbiology, and chemistry diagnostic testing. Performs routine duties in support of clinical research studies. Collaborates with clinical staff and study sponsors to achieve project goals including management and analysis of data, interpretation of results, preparation of reports, and publication of research.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborates and maintains effective communication with external and internal study sponsors (industry, governmental, or academic), clinical staff, and other departments and institutions to meet study project goals.

  • Completes established protocols within established time frames.

  • Accurately performs delegated roles of enrollment, testing, and recording of results for various clinical trials, research studies, and projects. Testing includes operation of pre-market investigational devices, routine and complex molecular, microbiology, and other clinical testing according to established protocols.

  • Ensures confidentiality of protected health information (PHI), investigational device information, and other study related data to maintain compliance with all applicable Institutional Review Board (IRB) and other regulatory agency requirements.

  • Performs accurate and timely entry of research data into specified programs or databases.

  • Actively organizes study documents applying Good Document Practices (GDP) and Good Clinical Practices (GCP).

  • Prepares and receives shipments of specimens, supplies, and other materials using established shipping protocols. Maintains records of incoming and outgoing shipments and relays relevant information to study sponsors as needed.

  • Operates, maintains, and performs routine maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment. Escalates problems as needed.

  • Performs regular cleaning of surfaces, equipment, and instruments in the laboratory; handles biohazardous material according to established protocols.

  • Maintains a positive attitude when faced with challenges and adapts to changing workloads in a team-oriented manner.

  • Assists with additional projects and tasks, at the discretion of the principal investigator.

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

  • Knowledge of quality control, customer service standards, information management, procedural process, recordkeeping, and CLIA standards.

  • Computer, technical, interpersonal, oral communication, listening, and patience skills.

Qualifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Minimum Required Experience: 0 years

Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences
Preferred Experience: Laboratory experience; clinical laboratory a plus

Required Certification/Licensure(s): CITI Training within 90 days of hire

Physical Requirements

Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
