Summary

APA-approved Residency/Internship in Health Psychology utilizing an integrated multidisciplinary model in the delivery of a comprehensive range of health psychological services. Performs supervised psychological assessment, individual therapy, crisis intervention, empirically-validated treatments, and/or behavioral management to individuals experiencing social, emotional, and health problems under the supervision of a licensed psychologist. Provides biopsychosocially-based psychological assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and delivery of psychotherapy and/or empirically validated treatment under supervision of licensed psychologist. Residents also engage in clinically-based research and program evaluation. All clinical work is performed under supervision of a licensed psychologist and performance is based upon successful completion of competencies. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with Medical College of Wisconsin Policies and Procedures.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conducts biopsychosocial interviews and provides psychological assessment (competently using general, health, and neuro psychological testing materials) of individuals who request psychotherapy services or are referred from a health provider for psychological distress, management of behavioral adherence, or adjustment concerns on a scheduled or crisis basis.

  • Provides psychotherapy, empirically-validated interventions, and/or behavioral management for patients who are either self-referred for psychological distressed or referred by a medical provider for challenges with behavioral adherence, adjustment to illness, or psychological distress.

  • Maintains up-to-date electronic medical records on patients.

  • Acts as a liaison between patient and community resources or other medical teams as needed.

  • Attends training seminars and supervision sessions on a weekly basis.

  • Provides outreach workshops and lectures as assigned.

  • Engages in collaborative health psychology research and program development and evaluation.

  • Provides psychological consultation to a multidisciplinary team as part of a specialty health team.

  • Provides behavioral management for patients on an outpatient basis or as part of an inpatient multidisciplinary team.

  • Consults with faculty, staff, and multidisciplinary team members concerning needs of patients.

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

  • The Health Psychology Residency includes training in biopsychosocial assessment (including general, health, and neuropsychological assessment), psychotherapy, empirically-validated treatments, health and behavioral assessment and intervention, multidisciplinary consultation, and program development and evaluation.

  • Modalities of intervention include individual psychotherapy, health psychology behavioral interventions, empirically-validated treatments, behavioral management, and consultation.

  • Residents participate in the development and leadership of workshops and evaluation/research programs such as population-based health and population health management.

Qualifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.

Minimum Required Education: Applicants must be degree candidates in an APA-accredited Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology. All course work for the doctorate should be completed.

Physical Requirements

Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
