Summary
The MCW student tutor assists in the development and implementation of various tutoring programs by providing review of material and application of information to their specified peer student body (M1 – M4s, MD/PhD, Graduate, and/or PharmD) through one-on-one tutoring, large and small group formats, Q &A, high yield discussion, and practicum type educational formats that correspond to required course work.
Primary Responsibilities
Work effectively with Course Directors, faculty members, Program Manager of Academic Support and Enrichment and other tutors to develop a solid teaching plan for integration of information and focus of relevant information with applicability.
Effectively assist students in resolving deficiencies to enhance academic performance.
Provide effective learning and study skill techniques to enhance understanding and integration.
Communicate appropriately in a professional and supportive manner with students, tutors and faculty.
Provide USMLE type examples to enhance learning.
If assigned as an Academic Enhancement tutor…
Provide group sessions on a weekly basis
Provide review and Q & A sessions prior to exams.
OTHER DUTIES
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge – Skills – Abilities
Experience providing learning strategies to diverse learners
Good understanding and application of teaching from a team based and problem-solving approach.
Familiarity with MCW’s medical school, graduate school, or PharmD curriculum
Ability to work with others within a team framework
Experience conducting educational presentations
Experience with large and small group facilitation
Well organized, detail oriented and good communication skills
Good grasp of creative problem solving
Ability to research for new resources to enhance learning
Ability to listen and provide constructive feedback
Be available and flexible for students and faculty
Qualifications
Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.
Minimum Required Education: Must be an M2, M3, M4, PharmD, or graduate student
Physical Requirements
Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.
Work Environment
Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.
Sensory Acuity
Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
